Laser hair removal has become extremely popular because of its speed and efficacy, although some of the efficacy is dependent upon the skill and experience of the laser operator, and the choice and availability of different laser technology at the clinic which is performing the procedure.
Some will need touch-up treatments, especially on large areas, after the initial set of 3-8 treatments. It has also been observed that some people seem to be non-responders รข€" this is not confirmed and reasons are not known, and may in fact be due to lack of skill on the part of many laser operators and/or the type of machine and settings they are using.
A depilatory is a cream or liquid that removes hair from the skin's surface. They work by reacting with the protein structure of the hair, so the hair dissolves and can be washed or wiped away.
Tips on Permanent Hair Removal
Bleaching -- An alternative to hair removal, lasts about two or three weeks. Lightens the hair closer to skin tone, so that it is harder to see. (One should use a bleach specifically meant for body hair.) Depilatory creams use chemicals to dissolve the hairs at the skin's surface. They are often used for facial hair removal or removal of hairs around the bikini line. Different creams can be purchased for different hair removal tasks. As these creams contain harsh chemicals, they may irritate the skin. For this reason, all creams should be tested on the skin before use.
Waxing -- It can hurt, particularly when one is new to the method, but leaves the area pretty smooth, and lasts one to six weeks, depending on the person.
Lasers -- This is the latest, state-of-the-art, perfectly hygienic, painless (I'm almost implying perfect) way to permanent hair removal.Extremely fast, and usually less pain than with electrolysis. Effects are long lasting and may be permanent after several sessions. One must avoid sunlight while healing.
Electrolysis: Professionally it is known as "Derma blend", and the technique uses a needle to reach the hair bulb in each follicle & passes a DC current a short burst of AC current to kill the hair bulb permanently. Quite widely advertised earlier, it's now considered only second best to lasers as it's time consuming (even an expert can remove only 30-40 hairs per hour) & some hair bulbs might still escape & cause regrowth
